Practical mobile checkout design guidance for Bangladeshi online stores, covering form length, payment buttons, slow networks and wallet app handoffs.

The short answer

Most Bangladeshi online shoppers check out on phones, often on budget Android devices and variable mobile data. Design for that reality: a short form, large tap targets, clear totals, payment options people recognise, and a page that recovers gracefully when the network drops or the customer switches to a wallet app.

Keep the form short

Ask only for what you need to deliver: name, phone, address, area and optional notes. Use a dropdown or search for districts and areas to reduce typing errors. Do not force account creation; see guest checkout vs accounts.

Make totals unmistakable

Show product total, delivery charge and any payment fee before the customer taps "Pay". Repeat the final amount on the payment button where possible, for example "Pay 1,250 taka".

Payment buttons

  • Use recognisable method names and logos, used under each provider's brand guidelines.
  • Make buttons at least finger-sized, with space between them.
  • Avoid pre-selecting a method that carries an extra charge.

Designing for slow networks

  • Keep page weight low; compress images and avoid heavy scripts on checkout.
  • Disable the Pay button after one tap and show progress, to prevent double payment.
  • Save the order before redirecting to payment, so a dropped connection does not lose it.

The wallet app handoff

Many payments move from the browser to a wallet app and back. Tell customers what will happen ("You will be taken to the wallet app to approve the payment"), and make sure the return page can find the order even if the browser session is lost.

Language and readability

Use plain words, a readable font size and good contrast. If your customers prefer Bangla, offer it, but keep amounts and order numbers in a consistent format. Follow basic accessibility practices such as labelled form fields, described in the W3C WCAG overview.

Test on real devices

Test on at least one low-end Android phone with mobile data, not just a desktop browser in phone mode. Time how long it takes to complete a purchase and note each moment of hesitation.

Quick checklist

  • Five or fewer required fields
  • Total shown before payment
  • Pay button disabled after tap
  • Order saved before redirect
  • Return page works without session

Frequently asked questions

Should I show all payment methods?

Show the ones your customers actually use. See choosing payment method order.

Is a mobile app better than a mobile website?

Not necessarily for a new store; a fast mobile site is usually the first step.
